Gloria Barczak, Professor of Marketing

Professor Barczak received her Ph.D. in Marketing and Innovation Management from Syracuse University and her M.B.A. degree from SUNY- Albany. Prior to joining the CBA in 1990, she was an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Professor Barczak's research is in the area of new product development (NPD) with particular emphasis on the NPD process and the management of NPD teams.  Her current research focuses on the role of information technology (IT) in the NPD process and NPD best practices. Her research has been published in a variety of journals including the Journal of Product Innovation Management, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, Research Technology Management, R &D Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, European Journal of Innovation Management, and Organizational Dynamics. She is a founding member of the Institute for Global Innovation Management and was recently recognized as one of the top innovation management scholars in the world by the Journal of Product Innovation Management. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Product Innovation Management, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Creativity and Innovation Management.

Professor Barczak has worked with a variety of companies, including SBC Communications, EMC, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Polaroid, EG&G, Zefer, Sterling Commerce and Radisson Edwardian Hotels. She has also undertaken research projects with such organizations as W.R. Grace, Pearson Prentice Hall, AARP, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Goodwill Industries, Boys & Girls Club of America, American Cancer Society, Modine, Kodak and Compaq Computer.

Professor Barczak is a member of the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA) and the American Marketing Association (AMA).She has served as the Chair of the 2003 PDMA Academic Research Forum, Track Chair of the New Product Development Track of the 2006 AMA Summer Educators’ Conference, and Co-Chair of the 2006 Innovation Research Network Conference. She is currently Co-Director of the Executive MBA program at Northeastern.
