Michael H. Zack, Associate Professor in the Information, Analysis and Operations Group and Academic Consultant to the Graduate Program in Knowledge Management

Michael H. Zack is an Associate Professor in the Information, Analysis and Operations Group and Academic Consultant to the Graduate Program in Knowledge Management at Northeastern University. He has also taught Global Knowledge Management at the Theseus Institute (Nice) and at L’Ecole Superior de Commerce de Reims. He is a frequent speaker at knowledge management conferences, his articles have appeared in many leading journals, and he is the editor of Knowledge and Strategy (Butterworth-Heinemann)

Mike’s teaching, research and consulting focuses on the use of information and knowledge to improve organizational performance.. He began his research on knowledge management in the mid-1980s while at the Harvard Business School where he received his doctorate degree. He is currently researching the strategic role of knowledge within organizations and industries for a book he is writing about strategy for the knowledge-based enterprise. Mike was previously a Research Fellow of the Lotus Institute (Lotus Development Corp.) where he did research on knowledge management and the IBM Institute for Knowledge Management where he led a research program on knowledge and strategy.

Prior to his academic career, Mike was a management consultant with a Big-five professional services firm, a founding partner in a knowledge management consultancy, and the CEO of a leasing company that was engaged extensively in knowledge management and knowledge-based strategy. In his spare time, Mike plays in jazz, blues, and acoustic string bands and has written about jazz as a metaphor for organizational improvisation.
